Google Spotlight Stories Digital Literacy

Google has officially upped the anti on Visual Literacy in the Virtual Reality (VR) 360 degree modern age we live in. It truly is a stunning piece of software, and is extremely engaging. If you like me have seen visual literacy done well in the past your about to be blown away by the stunning visuals of this app.

The key differences with Google Spotlight Stories is from a visual literacy standpoint, you have multiple characters running multiple story lines at any one time. Just like in the real world where people are doing things in their houses, or working away in an office. For myself and my class we have started with Special Delivery¬†world where basically Santa delivers presents, however as there are so many story lines I’ve not had an opportunity to go through all the different characters.

This is fantastic for questioning techniques, but also for inferring strategies. By exploring what happens with all the characters throughout the stories student can learn to infer what the different actions a character takes and what the possible repercussions are for that choice.

At this point there are about 8 different stories to explore with more to come.

The biggest problem is which one to begin with.
